I Want You – Lucky Date

Seems like Lucky Date is on a roll. Only several weeks ago he released his huge track six 16 and now he has “I Want You” out. Fun Fact: he even used his own vocals on this track. I had a chat with Lucky Date last year and he told me that he was making a lot of original tracks and that his plan was to eventually start releasing them one at a time once a month or so. So we might be seeing the era of Lucky Date originals if he keeps putting out tracks at this rate. Donald Glaude and Droid Beats

Last night Donald Glaude and Worthy played in San Luis Obispo. Watching Donald Glaude perform is entertainment in it self, the energy and charisma he brings to his shows is tremendous. During his show he dropped several songs that made me stop and think “holy crap, I need this song.” The song in this post is one of them. It is a Mario-electro-house-drug-trip. The song hit sooo hard and no one was expecting it. With the exception of the gratuitous use of ‘Modern Talking’ (see this post for an explanation) during the half time break this song bangs. Weekend Debrief

As you probably know Skrillex won 3 of the 5 Grammys that he was nominated for, including best remix for Cinema. Even if you hate Skrillex you should adknowledge that is a huge step for the EDM community. As he said in his acceptance speech, there have been people doing the EDM thing for a long time before him and it is great that it is finally getting recognition by a broader community. On a related note, the Foo Fighters/Deadmau5 ‘mash-up’ was awkward and poorly executed, but it is a step in the right direction. Deadmau5 was told what song to play, he did not have a choice and we are sure if he had more creative control over the show it would have gone differently. Even still many haters will claim that both of them ‘sold out’ and are mainstream but those people are too uptight to realize that as an artist your main aspiration is to have as many people listen to the music that you make. Essentially, congrats to Skrillex for his wins and we can’t wait to see where EDM collectively goes in 2012. Also I thought it was cool that Skrillex made the Cinema remix that won him the remix Grammy, a whole year and a half ago. If you were watch the Grammys you did not see any of the categories which he won because they do not feature all of them in the main show, many are given away before the main event including all the ‘smaller’ categories like the ones related to EDM.

As for music, I want to highlight Feed Me‘s new EP that came out last week. It is always awesome to see an EP with several genres on it. The progressive house track Relocation is more of a song than a track and features the melody and progression from his dubstep hit Blood Red at the end. Also only one drop in the song. The other track we want to highlight is a dubstep collab with Houdouken! Buy the entire EP here.

Friday Fun Day

~~This~~ (last week actually; sorry for the delay, I was not able to do any posts until I found another network since I cant upload from my crappy home one now) week has had a handful of releases worth mentioning. Lucky Date who acquired a huge following by putting production tutorials on youtube has release an original track, and im my opinion, it is his best work yet. There was also electrixx who put out a bassy electro house track with influences from older electro house. And Zedd is starting to prove that he is becoming one of the best current producers. His remix of Skrillex’s collab with the doors sounds like his shave it original but it way more upbeat. Grab these three bangers and party hard for superbowl weekend! By the way, the photo for this post us completely unrelated but is used because it is awesome.

We love producers who release tracks for free along with tracks on beatport; it makes it a lot easier for us to promote them. Figure and Bassex each released a remix this week and both have hip hop vocal elements but are still bassy and gritty. Party On (James Egbert Remix) – Blood on the Dance Floor

Can’t stop partying even when it is raining right? I don’t know who this James Egbert is but this remix of Party On reminds me of Dallask and Mord Fustang (perhaps, I don’t know). Even though lately the word ‘banger’ has been getting thrown around more than a frisbee at a hippie gathering, this song definition meets the decription. Save for the somewhat cheesy/cliche/mindless vocals during the break this song hits hard and is upbeat; perfect for parting on. Get the release here on Beatport.

Prutataa (Darth & Vader Remix) – Afrojack, R3hab

This was supposed to come out yesterday, but Beatport was lagging a bit. The remix EP for Afrojack’s and R3hab’s Prutataaa is now out featuring remixes buy all too familiar names like Dada Life and Darth & Vader. Im focusing on the Vader remix because I think it is much better than the other two and have been waiting for it since they released the preview several months back. Not much is know about Darth & Vader except that they are a duo from Brazil and are under the same management as Dirtyloud, ohh and that they have a kid named Luke. The song is heavy as fffuuuuuu and has some interesting timing at certain parts of the drop. I’m posting this in 192 because I really want some people to support them and get it here on Beatport. I was kidding about the Luke part.

Let it Hit’em – Alex Kidd

Alex Kidd has released another original on his label Crude Trax. It is Alex’s signature style of having a classic dirty electro house bass synth and lots of wobbles and Mod-Enveloped plucks. While his style is not changing, he is dialing it in and getting a better result with every new track. For all you electro house aficionados can you tell what other well know electro house song shares one of the same pluck samples? If you know, it should stick out like a sore thumb. Both artists made a lot of progress in 2011 and will see a lot of attention in 2012.
